Good morning, Oddies! Alexis here with a handful of holiday card ideas! I presume I’m not alone in the crafting world that sometime
I’m here today with a Some Odd Girl inspiration project. Today I’m getting a little messy with mixed media and making a custom cover for my art journal. Mixed media is all about the layers, and this piece has plenty. I started off by masking off the elastic closer with a little take and then applying a very thin layer of gesso all over the cover. I then used a few colors of spray ink using stencils to create a base. The next layer was acrylic paint, and I used both stencils and freehand techniques to fill in more area. Then came a layer of stamping using some decorative embellishment stamps like the ones from Grow, Happy Day, Miss You Mae, I Do and Party Girl Gwen. You won’t see much of these because of the next layer of torn up old ledger paper and more spray ink and more acrylic paint, but the stamping adds important dimension to the finished piece. Once I was happy with my background, I doodled all over it in white and black markers. Lastly I added my awesome Copic image of Demure and a couple more circles of inked paper with sentiments from Grow. To finish, I wrapped the elastic closure band in ribbon added a little more doodling and then give it all a clear sealant to lock in the colors and keep them from shifting later.
I’m really happy with how bright and colorful it is and I hope it inspires me to work on my journaling and I hope it inspires YOU to do something creative and personal for yourself!
